Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

Yes!  We accept most commercial insurances at Midwest Psych Center where I practice.  We also accept TriCare, Medicare, and Caresource managed Medicaid.  I accept private pay clients as well.

If you are concerned about the cost of services, please communicate with me. You may be eligible for a sliding scale fee schedule.

Do you provide teletherapy?

Yes! I offer in-office and teletherapy sessions.  Some people have preferences of one over the other.  We will talk about what works best for you.

The online platforms I use for teletherapy are  Doxy.me and EMDR Remote.

3

What's your cancellation policy?

I follow the cancellation policy at Midwest Psych Center.  Generally, we ask for a 24 hour notice if you can't make your appointment, but we understand unexpected things happen.  Please do all you can to communicate with us in advance if you have to miss an appointment.

Providers in our office use discretion when charging No Show/Late Cancellation fees ($50).

4

How long are therapy sessions?  How often?

Generally, therapy sessions are one hour, however some people prefer a longer or shorter time slot.  I work to individualize care for each of my clients, so if you need to adjust the duration of your time slot, just let me know!

Most clients come to therapy every 7-10 days at the beginning and gradually space sessions out longer as they achieve their goals and move toward ending therapy.  Frequency of sessions can be flexible, depending on what we are working on, so again, communicating with me about your needs and preferences is key.

How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?

Why wouldn't I be?!  (Just kidding!)

Every therapist is not a perfect match for every client.  I encourage those new to working with me to give it at least three sessions before making a decision.  It takes time for us to get to know one another and for us to develop a plan for our work.  If after a few sessions you're still not sure, let's talk about it!  Maybe we can make some adjustments.  If not, I will help you find someone to work with who might be a better fit.  The important thing is that you get the care you need, whether it's with me or another qualified provider.

We do have another therapist in our office, Amy Day, LPC, who may be a good option.

6

Do you prescribe medications?

I do not.  I am a Clinical Social Worker by training, and as such, I am not qualified to prescribe medications.

7

What if I want to consider medications?

Not a problem!  We have a psychiatrist in our office.  Midwest Psych Center is owned by Dr. Rakesh Kaneria.  I have worked with him for years, and I know him to be a skilled and responsible prescriber.  If you want to work with a prescriber at a different practice, that's okay too.  I just request to have your permission to collaborate with them in order to give you the best possible care.

Please communicate with me about any medications you take regularly, as some can impact the therapeutic process.
